Among the many sources, here are two to validate the truthfulness of the news given, one institutional and the other from a newspaper in the capital:
There are also those who claim to explain why Italy beats Germany, and tomorrow perhaps also China, forgetting to explain, for a comparison, that these are percentage increases that do not take into account the overall volumes of GDP, which in the case in Germany it is double that of Italy, while in the case of China it is even eight times larger. These are obviously very different production capacities and to use the term "locomotive of Europe" for Italy is at least improper in this case, and makes you smile, especially in a context where inflation matured up to July 2022 stands at 7.9%.
According to the data estimated by Istat, in the second quarter of the year, the Italian economy recorded a growth of + 1% compared to the previous quarter and of + 4.6% compared to the second quarter of 2021, with an acquired growth for 2022 equal to + 3.4%. Which means that, even in the third and fourth quarters of the year, the growth were to be zero, the annual rate would, in fact, be + 3.4%. In the reasonable assumption that growth in the second half of the year was the same as that recorded in the first half, there would be an annual growth of 6.8%.
It is known that in order to have real growth in Italy at the end of 2022, it is necessary to deflate the value of the percentage increase in GDP taking into account the value of the increase in inflation. Let's suppose for a moment that inflation does not increase until the end of the year and remains at 7.9% (a far too optimistic hypothesis), we would have that the real change in GDP (very roughly) would be:
+ 6.8% - 7.9% = -1.1%
In short, nothing new; a fact that speaks to us not of real growth, but rather of real decrease, stigmatizing that Italians in 2022 will be poorer, while the tendency to decrease ("unhappy") continues unabated.
The emphasis placed on the growth of the country, on the other hand, seems to take the form of a change of narrative, operated through the media, aimed in a functional way at the political elections to be held after the summer of 2022, in order to acquire political consensus in general.
Sustainability is a serious and necessary thing! Perhaps the most "easy and immediate" way may appear, but it is difficult to say how much the degrowth of economies can be useful for global rebalancing in an attempt to establish a wider sustainability. Certainly, to those who observe without partisan prejudices, at least one conflict immediately appears between current narration and truthfulness. But does achieving sustainability require awareness and conviction, in a spirit of truth, and not through an instrumentally "extorted" consent without authentic conviction?
