A comment to "Life in 2050: A Glimpse at the Economy in the Future"

The dominant mantra, which has led human society to focus on the short term in the past decades, does not yet seem completely exhausted and there are those who find the logical reasons in "carpe diem". Yet, the ability to predict the future or even to plan and determine it through one's actions has always fascinated man, to the point of pushing him even to "magic". The conjecture that considers a future event to be predictable, all the more when it is temporally close to us, seems reasonable, but difficult to quantify. The endogenous and exogenous variables that impact on human events are not all visible and predictable (although, for example, the pandemic in progress had already been glimpsed by someone!). Those few variables that we manage to isolate are not always quantifiable. The cyclical nature of the disappearance of human life on the planet now seems to be a scientifically proven fact, without corresponding conservation projects for the arts and knowledge accumulated up to now; for "future generations". Nonetheless, we have an obligation to program and plan (not just to defend ourselves from pandemics!). Although too long a look into the future may cross mere hypotheses. For 2050 the best and sincere wishes are addressed to those young people of today who will live in that period. In the meantime, however, let us worry not only about the environment and the energy transition, but also about the "improbable" medium and large asteroids, as well as the space debris that orbit the earth, not to mention volcanic eruptions, earth movements and possible tsunamis. Finally, let's cross our fingers, because we are rediscovering that the natural world in which we are immersed is unpredictable and sometimes violent, without any leniency.

Un commento a “La Vita nel 2050: Uno sguardo all’Economia nel Futuro”

Il mantra dominante, che ha portato la società umana a concentrarsi sul breve periodo nei passati decenni,  non sembra ancora del tutto esaurito e c’è chi ne trova le logiche ragioni in “carpe diem”. Eppure, la possibilità di prevedere il futuro o anche di pianificarlo e determinarlo attraverso le proprie azioni ha sempre affascinato l’uomo, fino a spingerlo pure alla “magia”. La congettura che ritiene un evento futuro predicibile, tanto più quanto è temporalmente vicino a noi, sembra ragionevole, ma difficilmente quantizzabile. Le variabili endogene ed esogene che impattano su gli eventi umani non sono tutte prevedibili  e predicibili (nonostante, per es.,  la pandemia in atto fosse stata già intravista da qualcuno!). Quelle poche variabili che riusciamo ad isolare non sempre sono sufficienti e  quantizzabili. La ciclicità della scomparsa della vita umana sul pianeta sembra ormai fatto scientificamente provato, senza che a ciò corrispondano progetti di conservazione delle arti e della conoscenza finora accumulate; per le “generazioni future”. Ciononostante abbiamo l’obbligo di programmare e pianificare (non solo per difendersi dalle pandemie!), sebbene lo sguardo troppo lungo nel futuro possa incrociare mere ipotesi. Per il 2050 i migliori e sinceri auspici sono rivolti a quei giovani di oggi che vivranno in quel periodo . Nel frattempo però prendiamoci cura, oltre che dell’ambiente e della transizione energetica, anche degli “improbabili” asteroidi di medie e grandi dimensioni, come pure dei detriti spaziali che orbitano intorno alla terra, per non parlare di eruzioni vulcaniche, movimenti tellurici e possibili tsunami. Infine incrociamo le dite, perché stiamo riscoprendo che il mondo naturale in cui siamo immersi è imprevedibile e talvolta violento, senza clemenza alcuna.
